The Wellbeing Health & Safety team partners with the business to inspire an environment for great leadership and people capability to build on our outstanding organisation for today and the future.

The Senior Wellbeing, Health and Safety Advisor promotes a proactive health and safety culture across Council, leading and participating in initiatives and strategies that contribute to employee well-being and safety. Undertake activities consistent with the WHS strategy and legislation in order to reduce workplace injury and disease, and ensure Council employees, contractors, volunteers and visitors are free from hazards and risks.

  • Contribute to a WHS Team and within customer teams to place Sunshine Coast Council at the forefront of contemporary WHS management to ensure the WHS system has capacity to perform its intended purpose
  • Lead the delivery, and contribute to the development ofstrategic WHS initiatives including our critical risk program, safety management system refresh, contractor safety management and wellbeing plan.
  • Conduct incident investigations and apply Human and Organisational Principles to create event learnings.
  • Provide evidence based WHS thought leadership to leaders to day to day activities and projects to improve WHS engagement and implementation.
  • Promote contemporary safety practices to build capability and support engagement of leaders and frontline teams. 

About you

For success in this role, you will understand, support and promote the organisation's vision, mission, and business objectives. Identifies the relationship between organisational goals and operational tasks.  Clearly communicates goals and objectives to others.

You will have experience in successfully applying contemporary safety practice and a relevant undergraduate degree in WHS or other and/or equivalent relevant experience.

Experience in conducting complex and sensitive incident investigations and apply HOP event learnings will be well regarded.

As a safety professional you will have strong leadership skills and demonstrated ability to positively lead, inspire and empower others, drive high performance, develop and coach team members, and foster a workplace culture consistent with Council’s corporate values.

You will be a natural leader with outstanding communication skills, coaching capabilities and passion for wellbeing, health & safety excellence.
