About the Role
The Urban Growth Projects Branch plays a critical role in shaping the future of the region by delivering sustainable, integrated infrastructure solutions that support population growth and economic development. Working within the Sustainable Growth and Planning Directorate, the branch partners with stakeholders, developers and the community to ensure transport networks and urban environments are well-planned, connected and future ready. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to large-scale, high-impact projects in one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions.
As the Lead Transport Planning Engineer, you will oversee administration of Council’s Transport Levy. You will provide technical leadership and strategic direction across a range of transport initiatives, influencing behaviour change outcomes, active transport delivery and infrastructure network planning. You will play a key role in developing long-term transport strategies, capital works programs and policy outcomes that support sustainable growth. This is a dynamic and impactful position where you will collaborate across Council and with external stakeholders to influence decision-making and deliver innovative, future-focused transport solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer, report and oversee Council’s Transport Levy, Transport Futures Fund and annual Transport Levy Program
- Oversee the implementation of behaviour change initiatives to support mode shift
- Input to active transport network planning
- Provide technical advice on infrastructure, planning schemes and developments
- Manage transport projects, including consultation, procurement and delivery
This position is based at Sunshine Coast City Hall, in the heart of Maroochydore CBD. This state of the art and sustainable building is designed to achieve an innovative and collaborative workspace.
About you
You are a qualified professional in engineering or transport planning with proven experience delivering strategic transport and infrastructure outcomes. Your background enables you to confidently translate complex planning concepts into practical solutions.
You bring strong leadership capability, with experience guiding teams, influencing stakeholders and fostering a collaborative, high-performing culture aligned with organisational values.
You are an analytical and strategic thinker, with the ability to interpret data, solve complex problems and develop innovative, evidence-based transport solutions that support sustainable growth.
You are an effective communicator and project leader, confident in managing competing priorities, engaging stakeholders and delivering high-quality outcomes within complex and often politically sensitive environments.
