About the Role

The Development Services branch enables sustainable development for the community on the Sunshine Coast by working with industry stakeholders to achieve timely, customer focused development assessment services, advice and advocacy in the areas of planning, engineering, environment, landscape, building, plumbing and legislative compliance.

The Development Compliance Officer provides sound development compliance services and advice.  You will work as part of a highly effective and motivated multi-disciplinary team responsible for ensuring compliance with development conditions.  You day will involve:

  • Review selected relevant development approvals to ensure their compliance with approved conditions, statutory requirements.
  • Respond to, contribute to the investigation of and seek to resolve complaints of development breaches pursuant to the relevant, planning, building and environment.
  • Contribute to the provision of advice and assistance and respond to queries and requests of a technical and general nature.
  • Lead the majority of large scale/complex development approvals to ensure their compliance with approved conditions, statutory requirements outlined in the Planning Act 2016, , the Environmental Protection Act 1994, the Building Act 1975 and the relevant Sunshine Coast Planning Scheme.. 
  • Respond to, investigate and seek to resolve complaints of development breaches.  
  • Lead complex/controversial development compliance matters from start to finish. 

About you

For this role you will have formal qualification/accreditation in planning, development compliance or regulatory fields.

Possess the ability to demonstrate investigative, analytical and research skills with the ability to diagnose problems and initiate customer focused solutions.

You will have highly developed knowledge of and substantial experience with planning, planning appeals, legislation, regulations, policies, statutory procedures and requirements for land use planning and assessment

Demonstrate professional communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer focus to engage in active listening, communicate persuasively, resolve issues and foster collaboration and cooperation.

As a requirement will be the ability to interpret and apply land development provisions to a compliance framework and knowledge of development assessment, building certification functions and responsibilities under Sustainable Planning Act 2009, the repealed Integrated Planning Act 1997 and the Building Act 1975. 

Appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.

Appointment to this position is subject to the satisfactory completion of a Criminal History Check.
