About the Role
The Waste and Resource Management Branch delivers Council’s Waste Program and plays a pivotal role in achieving regional sustainability goals. Operating as a major business area, the branch leads strategic planning, resource recovery initiatives, and service delivery that enhances liveability across the region. With a strong focus on innovation, collaboration, and community outcomes, it ensures waste services continually evolve to meet environmental and legislative standards.
As a Waste Collections Officer, you will:
- Assist with supervision and performance monitoring of waste and recycling contractors
- Identify service improvements and support enhanced waste operations
- Support development and delivery of waste minimisation and landfill diversion initiatives
- Act as a stakeholder for litter management and implement relevant recommendations
- Administer public place waste and recycling bin services and infrastructure
- Assist in implementing Council’s Resource Recovery Strategy
- Manage and respond to collection service–related customer requests
- Collaborate with internal teams to deliver high-quality community services
- Process customer applications including new, extra, missed, and event-related services
- Interpret and apply relevant waste legislation to ensure operational compliance.
About you
To succeed in this role, you:
- Bring strong experience in waste operations, contract management, or project delivery, with a passion for improving service outcomes.
- Are confident working with modern computer systems and can quickly learn new programs and technologies with ease.
- Have excellent communication skills help you build strong relationships, resolve issues proactively, and work collaboratively across teams.
- Are adaptable, organised, and able to balance competing priorities in a fast‑paced operational environment.
- Have a commitment to delivering exceptional customer service and supporting positive community outcomes.
- Thrive in a team-oriented environment and actively contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- Understand—or can rapidly learn—local government processes, waste systems, and operational procedures.
