About the Role

Waste and Resource Management branch delivers high quality outcomes in the areas of collection, recycling and disposal of solid waste from residential and commercial premises The branch also provides and manages landfills and resource recovery centres as well as education as part of its “Reduce, Re-Use, Recycle” program.

The Technical Officer Disposals & Projects will oversee the operational aspects of waste management facilities throughout the region including contractor performance, high level project and contract management, , and provision of expert advice to the team and stakeholders regarding legislation, policy and industry best practice to promote performance and improvement.

  • Contribute to the planning for waste management facilities and projects through professional knowledge, research, data analysis and trending.
  • Carry out high level project management including preparation, implementation, delivery and reporting of allocated projects, contracts and operations.
  • Carry out procedural and technical investigations to identify causes of technical or operational issues, or in response to identified risks, and make recommendations for action and implement actions such as improved practices, standards and procedures.
  • Identify opportunities and implement strategies for waste diversion from waste facilities and value adding to current materials and processes, including collection and processing of waste.

About you

As a professional in waste disposal and project management, you will have demonstrated appreciation of the essentials of contract management and administration on a substantial scale, including legal, risk management and financial management.

You will possess experience in waste diversion, recovery and disposal management programs and an up-to-date knowledge of contemporary waste and resource management practices.

You will have excellent communication, interpersonal and networking skills, along with excellent research, analytical and reporting skills

As a requirement of this role, you will possess bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil or Environmental) or equivalent, or a combination of extensive experience, expertise and competence, sufficient to perform all duties of the position at this level.
