About the Role

The Design and Placemaking Services Branch plays a vital role in planning, designing and delivering infrastructure that supports thriving communities across the Sunshine Coast. Working within the Infrastructure and Natural Assets Directorate, the branch provides expert engineering and urban design solutions that enhance transport networks, public spaces and stormwater infrastructure while supporting Council's vision of creating Australia's most sustainable region.

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will lead the delivery of complex civil engineering and placemaking projects from concept through to detailed design. This influential role combines technical expertise, project leadership and stakeholder engagement to deliver innovative, fit-for-purpose infrastructure solutions. You will oversee multidisciplinary design outcomes, mentor design professionals, contribute to engineering standards and help shape the future of transport, stormwater and public realm infrastructure across one of Australia's fastest-growing regions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the design and documentation of complex civil, transport, stormwater and placemaking projects.
  • Supervise and mentor Civil Designers, managing resources, workloads and project delivery outcomes.
  • Manage design procurement activities, including investigations, feasibility studies, project briefs and consultant engagement.
  • Provide expert technical advice, prepare engineering calculations and specifications, and contribute to Council engineering standards and best practice.

About you

You are a qualified Civil Engineer with extensive experience delivering complex civil infrastructure projects and hold, or are eligible to hold, Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) status.

You are a confident leader who enjoys developing people, sharing technical expertise and creating a positive, high-performing team culture.

You have exceptional problem-solving abilities and can confidently navigate complex engineering challenges, balancing technical requirements with practical and innovative solutions.

You are an effective communicator who builds strong relationships with stakeholders, provides trusted advice and collaborates successfully across multidisciplinary teams and external agencies.
