About the Role

The Arts, Heritage and Libraries Branch enrich the lives of Sunshine Coast residents and visitors through cultural leadership, learning opportunities, community connections, and access to knowledge. As part of Sunshine Coast Council's Community Strengthening Department, the branch plays a vital role in creating vibrant, inclusive, and connected communities while supporting Council's vision to be Australia's most sustainable region.

As the Senior Collections Officer, you will play a key role in leading the development, management and continuous improvement of Sunshine Coast Libraries' collection services. This position is responsible for ensuring library collections remain relevant, accessible and responsive to community needs while maintaining high cataloguing standards, supporting collection performance, and driving service improvements. Working closely with suppliers and operational teams, you'll help shape valuable library experiences for thousands of community members across the region.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the management and integrity of the library catalogue, including original and copy cataloguing activities.
  • Coordinate collection performance programs, using analysis and reporting to maintain quality, relevance and accessibility.
  • Manage collection-related budgets, supplier relationships and procurement processes to support service outcomes.
  • Provide coaching, technical guidance and operational support to staff involved in cataloguing, acquisitions and courier services.

About you

  • You hold a Diploma or Associate Degree in Library and Information Services and bring substantial experience working within a library environment. You understand collections management best practice and are passionate about delivering high-quality library services.
  • You are an experienced cataloguer with strong knowledge of cataloguing standards, collection systems and technologies. Your attention to detail ensures accurate records and excellent customer access to library resources.
  • You are highly organised and able to balance competing priorities in a busy environment. Whether working independently or collaboratively, you consistently deliver quality outcomes and maintain a strong customer focus.
  • You are a confident communicator who builds positive relationships with colleagues, suppliers and stakeholders. Your ability to analyse information, manage budgets and identify opportunities for improvement helps drive efficient and effective service delivery.

Pre-Employment Medical Required

Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
