About the Role

Join Sunshine Coast Council’s Design & Placemaking Services branch as a Design Engineer Project Officer, where you’ll play a key role in shaping the region’s infrastructure. Based in Nambour, this full-time position supports the delivery of civil design projects that contribute to a connected, liveable, and thriving community. You’ll be part of a team that provides expert design solutions for Council’s Capital Works Program, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, sustainably, and in alignment with Council’s strategic goals.

  • Support the design and delivery of civil infrastructure projects within Council’s Capital Works Program.
  • Assist in preparing design documentation including reports, estimates, and plans.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and participate in design reviews.
  • Identify project risks and assist in implementing mitigation strategies.
  • Provide technical advice under RPEQ supervision and support procurement activities.
  • Ensure effective communication and documentation throughout the design process.
  • Contribute to the development of future Capital Works Programs.
  • Lead the design and management of infrastructure projects, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Supervise Civil Designers and oversee technical design decisions and documentation.
  • Provide expert technical advice and independently prepare engineering calculations and specifications.
  • Develop and apply solutions to transport projects, engineering standards, and operations.
  • Ensure compliance with Council policies, WH&S legislation, and records management standards.
  • Support leadership within the unit and foster a safe, inclusive, and high-performing team culture.
  • Actively work towards achieving Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) status.

If you are Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ) you will have additional responsibilities including supervision of Civil Designers, providing a high level of technical design advice and overseeing engineering calculations and technical specifications.

About you

We’re looking for someone who can reliably manage time well, juggle multiple projects, communicate effectively and will fit well as a senior member of the team.

Mandatory requirements of the role include:

  • Tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Project Management, Planning, coupled with substantial experience.
  • Strong project management experience in project development, economic analysis and financial management skills.
  • Substantial knowledge and experience working with the relevant legislation, policies, procedures and standards.
  • Strong research, analytical problem solving and evaluation skills with the capacity to examine complex problems and develop innovative strategies.

To fulfil the Level 7 requirements of this role, you’ll also hold a RPEQ certification and strong leadership skills. Post-graduate qualifications are also desirable.
