About the Role

As a Systems Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, implementation, and optimisation of Council’s Data Centre Services and Cloud Infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for ensuring high performance, availability, and security across a range of platforms including Windows Server, Linux, VMware, Active Directory, and Azure.

This is a dynamic role that involves automation, troubleshooting, disaster recovery planning, and collaboration across teams to deliver innovative and sustainable IT solutions.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Design, implement & support data centre and cloud infrastructure systems
  • Automate processes & optimise performance across Windows & VMware
  • Manage backups, Active Directory, Azure & ensure business continuity
  • Provide expert support, maintain security & develop technical documentation

This position is based at  Sunshine Coast City Hall, in the heart of Maroochydore CBD. This state of the art and sustainable building is designed to achieve an innovative and collaborative workspace.

About you

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring a solid foundation in IT, holding a bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or a related discipline, complemented by relevant industry certifications and/or senior-level experience. Postgraduate qualifications are desirable and will be highly regarded.

We’re looking for someone with hands-on expertise in VMware, Windows Server administration, Veeam, and disaster recovery planning. Experience in managing complex virtual infrastructure deployments and cloud environments (including Azure and Active Directory) is essential. Your ability to automate processes and optimise performance using Infrastructure as Code will be key to driving innovation and efficiency.

Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills are vital, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver outcomes in a dynamic environment. A current “C” class driver’s licence is required, and you must be available for on-call roster or overtime as needed to support critical infrastructure.
