About the Role

The Digital Information Services branch delivers agile and transformative information and technology, enabling council to be a leader in providing innovative and sustainable services to its communities.

The IT Telecommunications Specialist is a professional, strategic and operational leader responsible for the end-to-end lifecycle management of Council telecommunications mobile fleet. This role is a service manager position that oversees mobile strategies, staff and roadmaps to ensure the delivery of secure, scalable, and cost-effective communication solutions while aligning with business objectives. The position encompasses strategic planning, vendor and contract management, service delivery oversight, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Duties:**

  • Manage Council’s telecommunication contracts and plan, develop and maintain strategic roadmaps for mobile telecommunications services.
  • Align telecom initiatives with organisational goals, digital transformation strategies, and emerging technologies.
  • Maintaining a trusted relationship with business units to continuously understand their business processes, priorities and challenges.
  • Develop telecommunication roadmaps to ensure future-readiness and scalability.
  • Oversee mobile operating environments including upgrades, updates, security, and mandatory configurations.
  • Oversee the management of Council mobile device fleet, including Apple DEP and VPP programs for device deployment and app distribution.

This position is based at  Sunshine Coast City Hall, in the heart of Maroochydore CBD. This state of the art and sustainable building is designed to achieve an innovative and collaborative workspace.

About you

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring formal qualifications in Telecommunications, Information Technology or a related field, or substantial experience in managing mobile device fleets and telecommunications services within a large, diverse organisation. Your expertise in contract negotiation, vendor management and SLA oversight will ensure Council’s mobile strategy remains secure, scalable and cost-effective.

You’ll also demonstrate strong leadership skills, empowering and coaching team members while managing multiple priorities and projects. Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Endpoint Administrator and security credentials are highly desirable, along with a current “C” Class driver’s licence. Your ability to build effective relationships, influence stakeholders and deliver innovative solutions will set you apart.
