About the Role

We are looking for an agile, proactive, and energetic leader for our Development Information Unit. As the Unit Leader, you’ll be the key escalation point for development advice, guiding and mentoring a fantastic team of emerging professionals who deliver timely, customer-focused services to the community. You’ll provide hands-on leadership, guidance, and coaching to support your team’s growth and success. We’re seeking someone passionate about fostering a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence. Collaborating across the branch with a network of experienced planners, you’ll contribute to the delivery of consistent, high-quality advice and development services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide supervision, leadership and coordination of operational business support staff and functions.
  • Manage escalated development enquiries from internal and external customers
  • Manage staff performance, productivity, morale and engagement by building employee capabilities, coaching performance and fostering a team culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and sharing information. 
  • Ensuring compliance with legislative and council requirements. .

About you

Essential to this role is a Tertiary qualification in Business, Management, Urban Planning or other relevant discipline, and/or extensive equivalent experience in the workplace.

It is a requirement of this role that you are able to provide high level professional customer service, with an ability to maintain composure, with experience preferably in a role providing development assessment information to the community.

You will have demonstrated ability to understand and apply relevant legislation, regulations, standards, policies and procedures relevant to the Development Services Branch and demonstrate leadership skills that can build strong, customer focussed teams.

To be successful in this role it is important that you possess strong communication skills with particular emphasis in the areas of building effective relationships, collaboration, consultation, and conflict resolution.
