About the Role
As a Vector & Pest Plant Officer with Sunshine Coast Council, you’ll play a vital role in protecting public and environmental health across our region. This position focuses on delivering pest and vector control services, including managing invasive plants and animals and controlling mosquitoes and other vectors. You’ll investigate complaints, monitor compliance with relevant legislation, and provide education and advice to the community to ensure safety and amenity.
In this hands-on role, you’ll investigate complaints, proactively audit and monitor compliance with the Biosecurity Act 2014, Public Health Act 2005, and Council’s Local Laws. You’ll interpret legislation, implement control strategies, and liaise with the public and stakeholders to resolve issues and promote best practices.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Investigating complaints and enforcing compliance with relevant legislation.
- Managing pest and vector control programs for invasive plants, animals, and mosquitoes.
- Providing education and advice to the community and stakeholders.
- Safely handling pesticides and herbicides in line with legislative requirements.
- Maintaining accurate records and upholding Council’s integrity standards.
About you
You’re passionate about the environment, environmental health and community wellbeing, with strong technical knowledge and communication skills. You’ll bring:
- A recognised course or experience in invasive species management.
- Knowledge of invasive plants in QLD, control strategies, herbicide use, and equipment.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Current Commercial Operators Licence under the Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control Act 1966.
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence.
- Ability to work outside normal hours, including weekends.
