About the Role
The Parks & Gardens Branch are responsible for the care, management and operation of a comprehensive living network of public open space and recreation areas which have been established for active and passive recreation and preservation of the natural landscape and environment features.
The role of a Parks Technical Officer supports the implementation of the Sunshine Coast Recreation Park Plan 2021-2031 by providing technical assistance on the strategic actions identified in the plan.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Support the development of evidence-based policy by undertaking research and analysis that inform open space and recreation planning and development.
- Support the Parks Assets and Capital Planning team in relevant review and content updates to the Open Space Landscape Infrastructure Manual (LIM), including undertaking research, drafting technical content and working with industry professionals/ manufacturers to research design solutions.
- Provide technical support relating to parks planning activities, which can include liaising with relevant internal and external stakeholders and support the request for comments process on behalf of the branch and draft internal stakeholder feedback.
About you
As a requirement of this role, you will have excellent report writing, communication, inter-personal, time management, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, and good computer skills including competency in use of Word and Excel and ability to use other standard Microsoft products and Council software applications.
You will have a strong understanding of Council’s policy framework, particularly Council’s Regional Strategies, the SC Recreation Parks Plan 2021-2031 and the SC Planning Scheme 2025.
You will be competent in using G.I.S Systems.
