About the Role
Parks & Gardens is responsible for the care, management and operation of public open space, foreshore reserves and recreational areas, supporting both active and passive recreation while preserving natural landscape and environmental features.
As a Parks Field Leader, you will provide proactive, hands‑on leadership to high‑performing work teams responsible for delivering maintenance, operational, horticultural or arboriculture services. You will coordinate daily works, plan ahead to meet service level targets, support safe and efficient work practices, and oversee a variety of technical activities depending on the designated team. The role combines practical operational work with onsite leadership, coaching and quality assurance, supporting Council’s commitment to well‑maintained, safe and welcoming public spaces.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead operational teams and ensure delivery of priorities, customer service and work aligned with Council values.
- Coordinate area‑specific duties such as planting, mowing, irrigation, cleaning, arboriculture or infrastructure tasks.
- Organise work schedules, plan ahead, and ensure quality outcomes across all field activities.
- Support and coach team members in safe work practices, technology use, equipment operation and continuous improvement.
About you
You are an experienced operational leader with strong capability in coordinating field teams across horticulture, cleaning, arboriculture or parks infrastructure activities. You bring practical expertise in your specialist area and the ability to oversee daily work in a structured, safety‑focused way.
You demonstrate sound judgement, strong communication skills and the ability to support team members in learning new techniques, equipment and technology. Your leadership style is positive, hands‑on and aligned with Council’s values.
You are committed to safe working environments, quality service delivery and continuous improvement. Your strong organisational skills enable you to plan work efficiently and ensure service levels are consistently met.
You take pride in contributing to high‑quality public spaces and enjoy working outdoors in a fast‑paced, community‑focused environment.
Pre-Employment Medical Required
Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
