About the Role

The Environmental Operations Branch are responsible for the protection, enhancement and management of council’s environmental assets across the landscape of the Sunshine Coast through development and delivery of integrated programs.

The Coastal Engineer supports the Principal Coastal Engineer in the management and delivery of sustainable programs and standards for the region’s coastline and canal network. You will exercise a degree of engineering and technical judgement to support coastal work programs including the provision of research and advice regarding the application of management techniques best suited to the region coastal programs.

On an average day you will:

  • Assist and manage the scheduling, implementation, and monitoring of the operational maintenance programs.
  • Provide engineering advice regarding the application of management techniques best suited to the region’s coastal and canal environments.
  • Support and manage strategic, tactical, program, asset and resource planning to achieve program outputs aligned with corporate strategies, plans and high quality coastal and canal management standards;
  • Assist, manage and deliver a variety of works for related capital projects.

About you

As someone with experience in coastal engineering and canals management within a medium to large organisation you will hit the ground running in this role. You will have demonstrated your ability to provide specialist engineering advice for both major and minor projects.

As a requirement of this role, you will hold degree level tertiary qualifications in Civil / Coastal Engineering or similar, or significant progression towards qualification completion.

You will possess a high level of interpersonal, written and communication skills with the ability to liaise with government agencies and professional bodies along with strong time management. You will have recent experience in the application of GPS, GIS and imagery applications.

Pre-Employment Medical Required

Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
