About the Role

The Development Services branch enables sustainable development for the community on the Sunshine Coast by working with industry stakeholders to achieve timely, customer focused development assessment services, advice and advocacy in the areas of planning, engineering, environment, landscape, building, plumbing and legislative compliance.

The Building and Development Compliance Officer provides technical building and development compliance advice and services, achieving acceptable building and development outcomes for our community in accordance with relevant legislation and policies.

In this role, you will:

  • Respond to, investigate and resolve complaints and compliance matters ranging from low to medium complexity to ensure compliance with the relevant legislation.
  • Review development application conditions to ensure their compliance with approval conditions and statutory requirements
  • Carry out audits and inspections of buildings, structures, swimming pools and facilities to ensure compliance with development, building and plumbing permits.
  • Project manage a range of low to medium complexity building compliance and development compliance matters.
  • Interpret and apply legislation, policy, guidelines and best practice procedures and ensure compliance with development and building work approvals.
  • Provide advice and technical assistance to internal and external stakeholders on matters relating to building compliance and development compliance.

About you

As someone working in the area of building compliance and development compliance, you will have developing knowledge of relevant legislation, regulations, standards, polices and planning schemes for building compliance and development compliance and enforcement matters.

You will possess demonstrated investigative, analytical and research skills with the ability to diagnose problems and initiate customer focused solutions.

You will have the ability to demonstrate time management, work prioritisation and organisation skills along with professional communication and interpersonal skills with a strong customer focus.

You will possess the ability to operate effectively with relevant business technology including mobile devices, Microsoft Office suite and other online or electronic systems.

As a requirement of this role, you will have previous local government compliance experience in the building and/or development compliance or other regulatory field, including working with multi-disciplinary teams, or relevant experience; and a class ‘C’ driver’s licence.
