About the Role

Our Transport Network Operations Branch is responsible for providing high level maintenance, construction and asset management services for all road and related infrastructure assets (pavements, bridges, drainage, pathways, and street furniture). Continuous performance improvement through leadership and employee engagement is a critical focus of the group.

The primary role of the Civil Field Worker (Plant) is to operate a 13-ton smooth drum roller on Council gravel roads maintenance team and carry out a hands-on role in delivering and maintaining efficient and effective day-to-day plant and operations of civil maintenance and construction tasks.

This role requires the general operation of any of the following plant:

  • Excavator up to .5 cubic metre capacity
  • Front-end Loader up to 2.25cubic metre capacity
  • Pneumatic Tyred Tractor with powered attachment up to 110 KW
  • Powered vibrating road roller over 4 tonne
  • Pneumatic tyred powered road roller over 8 tonne
  • Steel wheeled powered road roller over 8 tonne
  • A low loader not exceeding 43t GCM
  • Any other plant allowable under the Award.

You will assist in general construction and maintenance labouring tasks associated with truck/plant operations.

You will meet obligations under the Workplace Health and Safety Act and the Environmental Protection Act. In particular you will comply with the requirement of wok procedures and practices issued by the council for the purpose of workplace health and safety and environmental protection, eliminate or report hazardous conditions and work practices that come to one’s attention and report promptly any incident that involves work related injury or illness, a near miss or damage to property or the environment, operate and maintain relevant machinery and equipment as per manufacturer’s recommendations.  High risk items of plant, machinery and equipment require blood/breath alcohol level of 0.00 and may not be operated if performance is impaired from drugs, medication or other, and properly use, maintain, and seek replacement, when necessary, of all personal protective equipment provided.

About you

As a requirement of this role, you will possess:

  • 30215 Qld – General Safety Induction (Construction Industry) – Blue Card.
  • Current “C” Class Driver’s Licence.
  • Heavy Rigid (HR) drivers’ licence.
  • Certificate III in Civil Construction or relevant experience.

You will have demonstrated ability to work as an effective team member of a high performing team and demonstrated problem solving and communication skills necessary to follow direction and work programs to complete tasks within set timeframes.

Pre-Employment Medical Required

Essential to your success is physical agility and the level of fitness, strength and dexterity to carry out labouring and frequent heavy lifting & bending. As such, appointment to this position is subject to completion of a pre-employment medical assessment.
