About the Role
The People & Culture Branch partners with the business to inspire an environment for great leadership and people capability to build on our outstanding organisation for today and the future.
In this role, you will lead the payroll function and deliver specialist payroll knowledge and advice, ensuring compliance, accuracy, and efficiency across all payroll and time & attendance processes. This role is pivotal in maintaining and optimising our Human Capital Management (HCM) systems, specifically payroll, driving continuous improvement, and supporting strategic initiatives that enhance People and Culture services.
You will:
- Provide leadership and direction to the payroll team, ensuring a compliant and progressive payroll service.
- Oversee the maintenance and development of Council’s HCM software suite with a focus on payroll, ensuring seamless payroll and roster management.
- Foster a culture that values innovation, collaboration, and accountability.
- Act as a subject matter expert for payroll, ensuring data integrity and quality control processes.
- Lead projects and stakeholder engagement to optimise payroll systems and processes.
- Ensure compliance with legislation, Council policies, and best practice standards.
About you
You are an experienced payroll professional with strong leadership skills and a passion for delivering accurate, efficient, and compliant payroll services. You thrive in complex environments and have a proven ability to lead teams, manage projects, and drive continuous improvement.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Tertiary qualifications in Business Management, Finance, Information Systems, Human Resources or equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience with corporate HCM software suites, including cloud-based payroll systems.
- Demonstrated leadership capability and experience managing payroll in a medium to large organisation.
- Strong technical expertise in payroll, industrial instruments, taxation, and superannuation compliance.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships and resolve issues effectively.
- Proven project management skills and experience delivering organisational or cultural change.
- High-level organisational and time management skills, with the ability to meet strict deadlines.
- Strong written communication skills for preparing reports, policies, and business documentation.
- Commitment to integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with legislative requirements.
Appointment to this position is subject to the satisfactory completion of a Criminal History Check.
