About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated experienced Asset Accountant that’s a great team fit and will contribute positively to Council’s asset accounting function by ensuring timely and accurate recognition of assets, and all the asset transactions and processes throughout the asset lifecycle. This role is a direct support to the Senior Asset Accountant.

 

Key responsibilities of the successful candidate include:

 

  • Capitalising, disposing, and adjusting Council’s constructed and purchased assets in the financial asset register through analysing financial transactions and preparing asset registration supporting documentation, as well as peer review of your teammates work.
  • Contributing to the review and maintenance of assets under construction information for reporting and forecasting as well as undertake reconciliations of our asset classes, supporting GL accounts, and works in progress.
  • Support and contribution to the team for end of financial year activities and annual reporting requirements along with the annual asset revaluations and ongoing unit rate valuation development.
  • Regular collaboration with Asset Managers, Project Officers and Asset Information Officers as well as deliver high quality accounting information and advice to other branches within Council as needed.
  • You will maintain asset component data and assist with data and reporting improvement activities for the asset accounting team.
  • Assisting with the support, mentoring and development of junior teammates.
  • With a focus on continuous improvement, you will be required to participate in professional development, ensuring up to date knowledge on best practice and processes associated with assets.

 

About you

 

As an accounting professional, you possess tertiary qualifications in accounting or equivalent, along with relevant industry experience. Complementing your formal training is a comprehensive understanding of standards, process, and principles applicable to asset accounting in the local government environment.

 

Strong attention to detail is vital in this role and well-developed interpersonal skills capacity to communicate effectively via various mediums. In this position you will be dealing with asset records and information from a wide range of projects from across Council’s business areas.  This involves looking at engineering and project documentation and utilising mapping software so that you can make the accounting reflect the engineering reality!

 

Your ability to work efficiently and effectively within a diverse team to accomplish shared goals, is essential to your success. A strong skillset in utilising business software such as financial registers and non-financial asset registers, mapping software and the Microsoft Suite, is a must.

 

You are ideally well-versed in a similar role within Local Government or a medium to large scale company.

 

Candidates possessing membership of a relevant professional body or working towards such will be highly regarded for this vacancy.
