About the Role

The Development Services branch enable sustainable development for the community on the Sunshine Coast by working with industry stakeholders to achieve timely, customer focused development assessment services, advice and advocacy in the areas of planning, engineering, environment, landscape, building, plumbing and legislative compliance.


The Development Planner is responsible for providing high-level planning advice and expertise in relation to development applications and appeals in accordance with the planning scheme and other relevant legislation and policies.


Key duties include:

  • Process, assess and negotiate on a range of development applications as part of a multi-disciplinary team, in a timely manner, while maintaining a strong customer service focus.
  • Research and provide advice on planning matters to management, developers, professionals, staff and the general public on a daily basis.
  • Exercise strong initiative in making decisions, solving problems and resolving conflicts in relation to development applications and other development related matters.
  • Prepare high quality reports with recommendations and development assessment related correspondence.
  • Prepare Standard and Full Planning and Development Certificates.


About you

As a requirement of this role you will possess a recognised tertiary qualification /accreditations in the planning profession.  These qualifications must satisfy membership status of the Planning Institute of Australia. Complementing this is your relevant experience and ability to interpret and apply planning and environment legislation, regulations, policies, statutory procedures and requirements for land use planning and assessment of development applications.

Your time management, work prioritisation and organisational skills enable you to work both independently and interdependently as an effective, positive team member, in an environment that encourages knowledge sharing, job and/or task rotation and professional and personal development.


You are a strong communicator that maintains composure and objectivity in balancing competing demands and workplace priorities that reflects a strong customer focus.
