About the Role

Lead the Design Services Team in the design and documentation of transport and engineering infrastructure projects, including projects undertaken in conjunction with other Departments and Branches.


Key duties:

  • Deliver strong project management techniques for design and documentation of major and minor transport and engineering infrastructure projects.
  • Provide advanced advice on techniques for design and documentation of realistic design solutions.
  • Document projects and programs in a way that ensures that the transport and engineering infrastructure assets perform well and support delivery of Council’s broader objectives.
  • Research and implement modern and contemporary techniques to reduce the impact of transport and engineering infrastructure projects on the environment and climate change.
  • Partnering with other Units, Teams, and Branches to deliver great services to the community.
  • Managing the design and documentation of all transport and engineering infrastructure projects derived from the Capital Works Program, plus minor capital works from the recurrent budget and allied projects on behalf of other Council Departments and Branches.
  • Provide team leadership that will help develop a culture within the team that values people and encourages and supports teamwork, innovation, openness, participation, learning and development


The role is currently based in Caloundra but will be relocated to Maroochydore upon completion of Sunshine Coast City Hall.


About you

  • You will have a tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, project, contract management, engineering, construction management or other equivalent qualification, or considerable demonstrated experience based on a trade or certificated background.
  • You will demonstrate considerable experience in the design and documentation of transport and engineering infrastructure projects on a regional and local scale.
  • You will be eligible to become an RPEQ within a year of appointment.
  • You will have sound communication, negotiation, interpretive and advocacy skills.
  • You will prove to demonstrate staff management and mentoring skills.
